A click on a link to a file on the page’s own host counts as a download when the link’s path ends in one of these 390 extensions, in capitals or not.

Check here when a file’s clicks are missing from File downloads, or there when you didn’t expect them. For a file not listed, give its link a data-tally attribute, and its clicks are counted as an event instead.

Counted as downloads

Never counted

A link whose path ends in one of these is to a page, not a file, so it’s never a download: .asp, .aspx, .cfm, .cgi, .htm, .html, .jsp, .php, .pl, .py, .rb. Nor is a path with no extension, or one ending in an extension not listed above.

A link to a file on another host is an outbound click, whatever its extension.
