# Public stats

Make a site’s stats public, and anyone with the address can see its dashboard without signing in.

Public stats suit a site whose figures you’re happy to share, such as an open-source project showing its reach, or a team who all want to see a site without each needing an account. The settings stay yours. It’s one tickbox, and unticking it makes the stats private again at once.

## Making the stats public

In the site’s settings, behind **Settings** on its dashboard, tick **Make the stats public** under Public stats and choose **Save**. Every site is private until you do. It changes only who can see the stats, not what’s counted.

## The address to share

The dashboard is at `fiveb.ar/` and the site’s domain, as the settings show it:

```
https://fiveb.ar/example.com
```

The domain is written in lower case and without www., as the site was added, but the address works with capitals or www. too. A domain in a script of its own is in punycode there, such as `fiveb.ar/xn--qxadimj0al.gr` for κουνησε.gr, and the address written as you write it leads there.

Anything you open from the dashboard can be shared the same way, since it’s all in the address: a pane’s full view, such as `fiveb.ar/example.com/sources`, and any [date range](https://fiveb.ar/docs/date-ranges.md#linking-to-a-range) and [filters](https://fiveb.ar/docs/filters.md).

## What anyone can see

- **The dashboard**, with everything it shows you: the figures, the chart, who is on the site now, every pane from pages and sources to custom properties, goals and [searches](https://fiveb.ar/docs/site-search.md), and its Speed, Errors and Bots pages.
- **Each pane’s full view**, with its search.
- **Any date range and any filter.**
- **The stats API**, the same figures as JSON. See [Stats API](https://fiveb.ar/docs/api.md).
- **Apps** connected to fivebar over MCP, such as Claude, which read the same figures when you ask for the site by its domain. See [Connecting apps](https://fiveb.ar/docs/mcp.md).

No account is needed, and someone signed in to fivebar sees them the same way. Until the site has counted its first visit, anyone else is told only that nothing is counted yet, and how many pageviews were taken for bots, with a link to the Bots page.

## What stays private

- **The settings.** Nobody else sees **Settings** on the site’s dashboard, or can open the settings, let alone change them.
- **Email reports**, which come only to you, and only if you turn them on.
- **The site list.** A public site isn’t added to anyone else’s Sites page, nor listed to anyone else’s app.
- **Hidden goals.** Goals you hide stay out of the Goals pane, and out of the goals an app lists, for anyone but you.

## Search engines and other sites

Every dashboard and full view is sent with `noindex`, public or not, and so is every answer from the API, asking search engines to leave them out of their results.

The dashboard cannot be shown in a frame on another site’s page, your own included. Link to it instead.

## Making the stats private again

Untick the box and choose **Save**, and the dashboard, its views and the API close to everyone else at once. From then on, anyone else is answered as for a site that doesn’t exist: the dashboard asks them to sign in, or, if they’re signed in, isn’t found. A page someone already has open stays on their screen, but nothing more loads.
